Contract Program Security Officer (CPSO)

This is a multi-faceted security position requiring a qualified security professional.  The position will require the individual to function in a high profile, fast-paced position supporting multiple programs both in the DoD and Special Access Program environment.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develops and administers security procedures for DOD classified and/or company proprietary materials, documents, and equipment for multiple moderate to large sized contractual activities. 

  • Collects, studies, and implements federal security regulations that apply to company operations. 

  • Coordinates with government agencies to obtain rulings, interpretations, and acceptable deviations for compliance with regulations. 

  • Conducts security education and training classes. Investigates security violations and prepares reports specifying preventive action to be taken. 

  • Participates in determining objectives of assignments of Security Personnel. 

  • Interacts with senior company and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations. 

  • Participates in security reviews, compares procedures with actual operations, documents findings, recommends corrective action, and re-evaluates implementation of corrective action. 

  • Administers the personnel security program: Receives, reviews, and processes requests for personnel clearances for access to classified information in accordance with Government and company policy and procedures. 

  • ​​Provide training and detailed supplemental guidance to program personnel in accordance with multiple SCG’s issued by the OCR. 

  • Provide objective Security Classification decisions to ensure consistent interpretation of SCG’s, determination of correct classification levels, and proper classification of information among multiple contracts and subcontracts. 

  • Review and interpret Government issued DD254s and provide direction for the development of DD254s flowed to subcontractors. 

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the Classification requirements at the program, DoD, and, and corporate levels.



Bachelors degree in Business or related field preferred and/or a combination of eight to ten years of experience and education in lieu of a degree. 

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of six years of related experience.  Minimum of three years experience in an Industrial Security environment.
  • Must have excellent writing, speaking, analytical, project management, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Candidate shall possess strong computer skills using common programs and tools such as Microsoft Office, etc.  Must have the ability to learn specialized software and hardware operations.
  • Must be highly flexible, and capable of operating under less than ideal conditions from a time-management standpoint. 
  • Must be able to perform complex problem solving, demonstrate decision making skills and make recommendations to security management to resolve issues. 
  • Must be a self-starter and team player.
  • Willing to work extended hours if needed, in a fast paced, deadline driven environment, and be willing to travel on company business.
  • Completion of FSO certification and/or SAP Orientation Course.

Special Requirements

Strong foundational knowledge of administrative, classification management, information systems, physical, and personnel security disciplines, and an ability to work in a demanding, frequently fast-paced environment with multiple customers is essential.

Proven experience with implementing the requirements of the NISPOM, NISPOM Overprint, DCID/JFAN 6/0, DCID/JFAN 6/3, DCID/JFAN 6/4, and DCID/JFAN 6/9 security manuals.  Experience with the requirements (NISPOM Chapter 8, DCID 6/3) required.

Ability to successfully interact with internal and external customers or Government security officials (at all levels of a given organization) to ensure on-time execution of the security mission is essential.

Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering security briefings and presentations, and translating complex security requirements for the use and implementation by/of program technical leadership and personnel.

Able to interface well with all departments of the company and to represent the company in a highly professional manner.

Must be a multi-task orientated and well-organized person. 

Must be customer service driven, able to understand and support the business goals and objectives.

Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality, handling company private, sensitive and personal information in a professional and discrete manner. 

Security Clearance  
DoD Secret level clearance or higher required.  

Physical Demands

  •  Frequently required to spend long hours sitting at a work stations and using office equipment. 
  • May be required to walk or stand for brief periods
  • May be required to use stairs when elevator is not available
  • May occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds of office supplies and materials 
  • May be required to reach with arms and hands and to stoop, kneel or crouch
