Senior Systems Engineer responsible for the electrical systems engineering support of client's projects. Provides systems level technical knowledge to project customers. Attends project peer team meetings, provides product design demonstrations, implements system level designs in accordance with project standards, and may create systems simulations and/or models. Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and 4- 6 years of experience in the electrical systems engineering or power electronics field. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures such as requirements allocation and flow down to system level requirements. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
Job Responsibilities: • Provides electrical systems engineering and integration function for Electric Drives Systems at Torrance, California client's site. • Designs, tests, installs, and maintains electro-mechanical motor controllers, actuation controllers, or electric drive systems for use in aircraft applications. • May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. Familiarity with system modeling tools highly desired. • Applies principles and techniques of electrical and systems engineering to accomplish goals. • Requires a minimum bachelor's degree in Engineering and generally a minimum of 4-6 years’ experience in the EE field or in a related control systems engineering area or 3 years with a PhD degree. • Familiar with a variety of the systems engineering field's concepts, practices, and procedures such as systems specification to DOORs to project flow down and allocation of requirements, and related systems specification allocated and derived requirements knowledge. • Hands-on troubleshooting of systems or circuit cards highly desired. • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Must have a demonstrable history of delivering results on time to tight deadlines. Requires owning the work, and driving to achieve results even when faced with obstacles to progress.
Functions may include: • Electrical circuit design, systems requirement traceability, systems simulation, coordinating system connectors, board layouts, system interface design, running circuit simulations and analysis using tools such as MentorGraphics DxDesigner, PSIM, Matlab, or PSPICE. • Ability to support multiple related subproject phases, hands-on troubleshooting and investigation of customer returns for fielded units, generation of white papers to document investigation findings with comprehensive root cause analysis, making recommendations for corrective actions, and documenting test results. • Support for phase 6 project parts obsolescence and upgrade activities may be required. • Knowledge of obsolescence parts replacement, identification of substitute parts, and making related board level drawing changes, and updating test plans and procedures. • Advanced understanding level for circuit design, circuit simulation, test and analysis. • Experience with SAP for documenting factory process build and assembly steps, and using EE modeling tools such as MATLAB or PSPICE or ANSEC circuit modeling tools a plus. Basic Qualifications: • BS degree minimum, MS or Phd preferred, EE or Systems Engineering or Control Systems or Computer Engineering or Power Electronics, or a similar engineering degree. • Minimum 4-6 years Systems/Electrical Engineering experience with power electronics or high power systems orientation towards electro-mechanical aircraft systems design or Phd combined with 2 years’ experience. • US Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident due to project export restrictions.
Additional Qualifications: • Experience with root cause and corrective action process. • Ability to produce high quality white papers to document findings, results of trade studies, and test reports. Coordination with cross-functional engineering teams to achieve results is required. • Composition of PowerPoint presentations for peer reviews, team meetings, program design reviews, and phase gate activities. • Knowledge of Power Electronics (motor controllers, actuators, or high power generation systems) highly desired. Knowledge in multiple key areas listed is highly desired: AC generator, arc fault detection, AC-DC converter, DC-AC converter, DC-DC converter, DC generator, electric drives, electric motors, electric power, aircraft electrical power system architecture, electrical distribution system, electrical generator, inverters, auto-transformer rectifier units (ATRU), and controlled rectifier units. • Familiarity with aircraft and aerospace testing standards, such as DO-178B, DO-160 desired. • Knowledge of systems engineering best practices, systems integration, verification of requirements, and validation of system functionality.
