Job Description:

Antenna Systems Department (ASD) is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to fill a Mechanical Engineering position with concentration in thermal-fluid sciences for the Thermal-Fluid Design and Analysis Section. ASD is department in the Mechanical Engineering Directorate, and the position will be located in Marlborough, MA, and will include some responsibility for engineering oversight and support in other MA locations.

The Antenna Systems Department provides conceptual development, design, documentation, prototyping, production and support for a wide range of antenna and radar products.

The thermal-fluid design and analysis section within the ASD is responsible for performing detailed thermal management and fluid flow analysis of Mechanical Systems. It also supports environmental testing along with testing required for development of new thermal technologies via R&D. Primary responsibilities include:

• Plan and conduct thermal-fluid analysis of electronic, mechanical and electromechanical systems and interpret thermal analysis results.
• Provide technical guidance and direction for analytical tasks and thermal testing
• Write cost estimates for analysis activities

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

This position is anticipated to be G06-G07 level, and will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience as they relate to the skills and responsibilities required for the position

Required Education and Skills:
• Required Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Strong knowledge of heat transfer and fluid flow
• Educational or industry experience with electronics cooling, heat exchangers, piping systems, thermal control techniques and refrigeration systems
• Strong written and oral communications skills, good presentation and technical writing skills
• Interacts well with team members across various disciplines.

Desired Education and Skills:
• Master’s Degree with concentration in thermal-fluid science is highly preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in thermal analysis with experience in finite element and/or finite difference modeling with application to industry
• Strong experience in heat transfer and fluid flow and their application to thermal design of cooling systems.
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) proficiency highly desired.
• Experience with one or more of the industry-standard thermal software tools: ANSYS, NASTRAN, FLOTHERM, STAR CCM+, SOLARIA
• Knowledge of CAD and CAD software is desired.
