Model Maker - Level 3

PDS Tech, Inc is seeking a Model Maker - Level 3 for an open position in Orlando, FL.
Job Description: 
  • Designs and fabricates tools and parts in metals and plastics through machining and heat-treating operations.
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, or verbal instructions using math and basic computer skills.
  • Maintains model shop machinery.
  • May enter data from blueprints or databases into CAD/CAM system, generate numerical control program, and transmits program to machining center.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required.
  • May modify numerically controlled programs on numerically controlled (NC) machines.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • This position is for an additive manufacturing technician in the Engineering Prototype Lab (EPL).
  • The EPL is the Engineering and Technology hardware development lab, focused on providing services to support engineering development from prototypes through low-quantity initial production.
  • The position is focused on metal additive manufacturing where candidate is responsible for the actual set-up, operations & fabrication of metal additive hardware. 

Mandatory Skills:
  • Must be versed in Magics and have a strong background in Creo or Catia.
  • This position requires good communication skills, creativity to conceptualize hardware build options and hands on experience with actual machine operation.
  • Must have additive manufacturing experience. 

Desired Skills:

  • Hands-on experience machining and/or assembling hardware.
  • Proficiency with Magics.
