Tooling Design Supervisor

General Summary:
The Supervisor of Tool Engineering leads a group of Tooling Engineers, Liaison, and Coordinators by providing advanced tool engineering and project management support within production.  Directs and coordinates the daily activities of tool approval, tool design, and acquisition. 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads a team of Tooling Engineers in providing imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions.
  • Manages the completion of tooling projects and tool design reviews
  • Recommends changes to existing tool designs related to cost reduction or obsolescence.
  • Drives lean development in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
  • Works with engineering design documents, specifications, prototypes, and/or change orders to determine required tooling to produce quality products.

.Education, Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
  • B.S.M.E, M.S.M.E. (Manufacturing, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, or related field)
  • Experience in a leadership position.
  • Experience in aerospace tool design and fabrication.

  • Expert knowledge of general aerospace tool design and modifications.
  • Strong Lean manufacturing process knowledge and process improvement skills.
  • Expert knowledge of tooling design/drafting practices, design for manufacturability, GD&T.
  • Advanced knowledge in blueprint schematics reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing required.
  • Strong experience with CATIA V5, Teamcenter Engineering and Manufacturing, SAP, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Lotus Notes).
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
  • Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
  • Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
  • Effectively communicate in Business English language.
  • Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
  • Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
